Nikon AF-S VR Zoom Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF ED Lens
The AF-S VR Zoom-Nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6G IF-ED lens features Nikon`s Extra Low Dispersion (ED) glass, Silent Wave Motor (SWM) and enhanced Vibration Reduction (VRII) to ensure the best images. Optics have also been perfected for use with both Nikon DX format digital and 35mm film SLR cameras. The Zoom-Nikkor lens offers 70-300mm (4.3x) zoom performance, and is suitable for various telephoto shooting opportunities, particularly in sports, nature and wildlife photography. When used with a Nikon DX format digital SLR, the picture angle is equivalent to what would be experienced with a 105-450mm lens on a 35mm. SLR Advanced Nikon engineering has given rise to a compact lightweight lens design that offers outstanding optical performance and excellent handling characteristics. The new Nikon Vibration Reduction (VRII) system enables users to take substantially sharper handheld pictures at slower shutter speeds approximately 4 stops slower* than would otherwise be possible.

Not worth the money at all
Pros: Better built than other 70-300 models at the moment.
Cons: Silly price for what you get. NO macro mode.
The Bottom Line: If you must have 300mm, buy the Sigma version. If 200mm will do, the Nikon 28-200G is a gem for 300.00.Review: Okay....there are now three Nikon lenses that are 70-300. The least expensive version is the G type... More -
Good compliment for the D70 and D50
Pros: Inexpensive, wide range of focal lengths, good performance for the money.
Cons: Not very rugged, no direct manual control on older Nikons.
Review: Say you've purchased a Nikon D70 or D50 DSLR, and you're looking for a good lens to extend your tele... More -
Bang for the buck!
Pros: extreme optical quality, excellent construction, includes case and integrated lens hood
Cons: excellent price point vs its bigger brother the F/2.8...but still expensive. Lens collar
The Bottom Line: It may be an F/4 but you save $4000! and get awesome performance. It works fantastically well with Nikon teleconverters.Review: The second you start looking at telephoto lenses longer than about 200mm you will start to see a HU... More -
Hawkgenes
Pros: Excellent resolution and contrast. Robust design but with a relatively light construction.
Cons: Tough enough for hobby use, but probably not robust enough for professional use.
Review: Having recently bought a Nikon D2X camera I became aware that my 70 - 300mm G lense was not producin... More -
Didn't expect a lot, but got even less
Pros: Light, inexpensive, relatively small
Cons: Very poor AF (constantly hunts), lots of chromatic aberration
The Bottom Line: This lens let me down. The images are not what you would expect from a ED glass and the autofocus system is poor.Review: I read a ton of reviews before I picked up this lens and one thing is clear. Nobody agrees about how... More
